Food Allergies & Intoleraces

Image
As a society we have become more and more familiar with food allergies and intolerances than ever before.  I personally have been affected by food intolerances & auto-immune responses where it can affect my health in significant ways if I don't practice what I know now. I had ongoing symptoms of fatigue, gut-issues and having unexplainable symptoms for months on end without reaching a diagnosis after thousands of tests. I eventually went to  seek the help of a holistic practitioner who tested for food sensitivities that came back positive - to my surprise. Eliminating these foods completely took a lot of research, trial and error but have improved my quality of life significantly once I got the hang of it. But what is the difference between a food allergy and an intolerance? A food allergy occurs when the immune system reacts to the foods we eat that is otherwise harmless to other people. Common food allergens are  peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, sesame seeds, fish and s

Own Your Body

I always remember feeling very conscious of what other people's opinions were of my body. I always was put at the back of the dance class because I was tall, but deep inside I believed it was because I was one of the "large" girls. Whenever I heard someone say something about my appearance I felt a wave of anxiety overcome me. What people don't realise is how damaging these comments can be to any normal human being. These comments have the power to destroy a person's entire sense of self, even through the best of intentions. It was one of the biggest challenges I had to overcome on how to receive comments without it affecting my progress. I soon learned that people who are supportive of your goals don't make comments like these unless asked. It also wouldn't hurt to ask those in your immediate circle to not talk about appearance if you are having difficulty to build your own self-esteem, because “your body is none of anyone's business. Their opinion i

Sacred Mornings

Make your mornings the most important part of the day. It is important to set a ritual of at least 3-5 things that will set the right intention to your day. I simply cannot wake up without having a glass of water, coffee/celery juice followed up by a walk or some sort of exercise.  I have recently joined the celery juice trend and found that I feel brighter, more energetic than when I have coffee. It has amazing health benefits and although it doesn't serve as a breakfast substitute, it really makes you feel extra "glowy" throughout the day. I do these 3 things religiously as when skip it I might end up having a bad day or just feel groggy. If you have more time it is essential you do a bit of journaling or meditation to get your thoughts in order. These two practices have a massive effect on your mental wellbeing especially when you are going through an emotional time or just feeling a bit off.  After exercise I usually have a protein rich breakfast to bal

What it takes to love your body

Image
I have always admired women who have a positive body image that seems to appear so effortlessly to them. The question is if that confidence is really true or if it is only a front they put up to the world to hide behind their true insecurities. How can you become a woman of body confidence and enthusiasm towards your looks? There are some obvious traits these women possess. They: - focus on things that matter instead of their flaws - dress in a way that makes them feel confident and works for their body type - pursue their passions and engage in things that bring them joy - don't take life too seriously These are all admiring qualities that every woman can take on board. I’ve talked to many of these women and it is not their lack of insecurities, but they choose to focus on things thats going for them, instead of what they lack. It all comes down to your weight is not your worth. I strongly believe the the dieting culture is something that is going out of fashion at a ra

A message from Odine

A message from Odine Hi, and welcome to Habits. I am so excited you are here! We love helping women who struggle with unhelpful food habits & body image as well as give some healthy tips to get you along. Habits was created for anyone who wants to learn to eating healthy, overcoming destructive food behaviours and living a happy, fulfilling life free from dieting and low self-esteem. Since I can remember I never liked the way I looked, my size and low self-esteem that eventually turned into a very long path of self-destruction through eating disorders that almost cost me my life. I saw countless health professionals of the very best in their industry, but nothing helped until the day I learned to surrender and help myself heal. From finding recovery I have developed a deep desire to help people with negative body image, self-limiting beliefs and to serve from a place of someone who "get's it" and know what it's like to suffer from a debilitating
